Pete's parents were always there at his games, whether he was playing or not, to let him know that they were there to support him through the bad times and the good times. When Pete finally got his opportunity to play, he came into play and threw a no-look pass, but his teammate wasn't ready and the ball bounced off his head and went out of bounds, losing the game to Pete's team. Later that night Pete was in the gym shooting and his father comes into the gym and tells his son that he didn't lose the game for his team and that the pass he threw to his teammate was a perfect pass. Pete's father trusted him and encouraged him to overcome his mistakes to let him know that he has a gift and that he would be on his way to achieving great things if he continued to practice and dedicate himself to the game. Additionally, his parents were honest in letting him know that they didn't have the money to pay for college, but they knew he had the talent to earn a basketball scholarship that would pay for his costs..
