Progressivism teaching methods recognize cooperative learning activities as a practical method of teaching. Working in a team has not always been part of my previous training. Normally working independently has made me feel uncomfortable and distrustful of others when working in a group. It also left me intimidated by my peers of different racial and ethnic backgrounds. I believe that if students are frequently exposed to cooperative learning activities, they will be more confident and more team-oriented towards a unified goal. My early cooperative learning experiences in college taught me in a short period of time that just because someone is different, doesn't mean they are incompetent; Furthermore, learning from students is an important part of being a teacher. It is important for children to learn this lesson early in life, not until their college years. I believe it is beneficial to expose children to as much racial and ethnic diversity as possible to ensure fair and truly beneficial treatment.
