The theme of the course is particularly relevant regarding Facebook. Facebook was initially created for undergraduate students at universities in the United States (Phillips; par.1-3). Today, Facebook is a global phenomenon and has many users around the world. While many college students still use Facebook to discuss course work and sell textbooks, the social media website can be used for many other purposes. Today you can use Facebook to stay in touch with friends and family. You can chat, share photos and videos, and even play games together. It is often through social media sites like Facebook that we find news about our family and friends and share their excitement. Many people use Facebook to announce that they are engaged or expecting a baby. With Facebook, it's easy and convenient to share this news with all your friends and family, instead of telling each person individually. All you have to do is update their status or upload a photo and all their friends and family will be able to see it in their news feed. Another example of users shaping new technologies can be found in FaceTime. As mentioned, FaceTime was created for video chat (Dye; par.1). Who would have thought that FaceTime could be used to witness the birth of your child? If it hadn't been for FaceTime Ian Kennedy would have missed one of the most important milestones in his life, the birth of his daughter (Wilhalme; par.1-4). Facebook and FaceTime are just two examples of the many ways users can shape something new
