“Try to imagine a world without Walt Disney. A world without his magic, his imagination and his optimism...” (Brad A.) Well, everyone knows Walt Disney as the creator of Mickey Mouse and the man who made the first Disney films and cartoons famous. Walt Disney did more than just make Mickey Mouse. He touched hearts and had a positive impact on the lives of many people. It also made Disney famous all over the world. Today there are Disney theme parks in Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo. Along with the famous Disney Land in California and the famous Disney World in Florida. Walt was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901. He was the fourth born of 5 children. Walt's father; Elias, abused his children and was a very severe man. When Walt was nine years old, the Disney family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Walt liked it there because they moved to a farm. At this point he loved drawing. He enjoyed drawing farm animals and the house they lived in. One day, when Walt and his younger sister Ruth were home alone, Walt put black tar all over the side of the house and taped up his Esso drawings. When his parents returned home, Walt's father was not happy at all. In addition to getting in trouble at home for drawing, he also had problems at school. He never paid attention in class, he just sat at his desk and drew. When Walt drew his pictures, he did it the way he wanted. “Walt still liked to draw, but he liked to do it his way. At school he was once told to draw a vase of flowers. Walt gave faces to flowers. Instead of leaves, he drew arms..” (Ford) At the age of nine Walt was delivering newspapers for his father. He had to wake up at 3:30 every morning and had to deliver documents in all weathers. He was so tired that he fell... halfway across a sheet of paper... to open another park in Orlando, Florida, and call it Disney World. In this park, however, Walt didn't want there to be just rides, he wanted to have "the city of the future". Disney was focused on the future and waiting for a brighter tomorrow, so Disney came up with the idea of EPCOT. Which means Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Walt Disney was not alive to see the finished product of Disney World. It opened in 1971. Walt died of lung cancer on December 15, 1966. He was only 65 years old. Walt Disney created a gigantic franchise that continues today around the world. Everyone knows who Walt Disney is. Walt wanted to help make an impact on the world and he succeeded. Walt's work brought happiness not only to the lives of children, but also to the lives of adults. "It is certain that there will never be a great man like Walt Disney..." (Brad A.)
