Analyze how disappointment or loss affected a character or individual's relationships in written texts. Hamlet is a revenge tragedy that mainly focuses on Hamlet's desire and attempt to avenge his father's death. It all began when Hamlet returned to the state of Denmark due to the death of his father. When Hamlet is first introduced to us, it is clearly said how Hamlet is in the depths of grief as King Claudius asked him, “How is it that the clouds are still hanging on you?” and the Queen said to Hamlet, "Throw away your knightly colours." We can imagine him as someone who radiates his grief over his father's death. Hamlet's attitude changed from sadness at his father's death to anger when the ghost revealed to him that his uncle, King Claudius, had killed his father by poisoning his ear. It follows his mother's marriage, which Hamlet calls an "incestuous marriage." The loss of Hamlet's father affected him greatly and therefore affected his relationships with other people. When his father died, Hamlet's mother Gertrude married Claudius only after two months. Hamlet called it an "incestuous marriage" because the marriage is simply too sudden. He thinks it is not right and is not based on true love as he said: “You can't call it love, because at your age the golden age of blood is docile, it is humble. And he awaits judgment." He feels disgusted towards the queen because she should be in mourning instead of remarrying the king's brother, Claudius. It is shown how his mother's action of marrying his uncle affected Hamlet when he said, “She is married - O wicked speed! Relying so anxiously on incestuous sheets! It is not, nor can it be successful. But break my heart, for I must hold my tongue. As a mother of a sad man... middle of paper... thinking about whether it's the right thing to do, as she said, "Conscience makes cowards of us all." But sometimes he acts on his own impulse which leads to catastrophe as he killed Polonius destroying his relationship with the other two characters as it was their father who was killed, by Hamlet simply thinking that he is the king who is hiding behind that tapestry. The climax occurs when Hamlet finally takes revenge, but unlike Fortinbras, Hamlet's revenge comes at a great cost to everyone. His previous failure to act and take revenge will, ironically, cause the death of his mother, Polonius, and the woman he loved, Ophelia. The tragic ending concludes the story where almost everyone ended up dying, even the main character Hamlet. It shows how disappointment and loss affected the relationships of a character or individual in Hamlet.
