Strengths Perspective The strengths perspective focuses on a family's strengths and resilience in order to overcome difficulties and help the family achieve its full potential. The premise of this perspective is that every family has capabilities that can be built upon to triumph over adversity. These difficulties are seen as opportunities for growth in the family. Although this approach is strength-based, it is important not to ignore problems within the family, but instead focus on strengths that can be used to overcome problems (Anderson, 2013). This perspective moves away from the problem-focused medical model and instead focuses on strengths to help families achieve their wellness goals. This approach views the person or family as an expert, with unique talents and resources. The social worker helps the family leverage their strengths to achieve family goals (Anderson, 2013). This perspective is in line with the value of self-determination of the Social Service because the family directs the objectives and interventions in collaboration with the social worker. The focus of an assessment is on the family's vision and drawing on the strengths to realize this vision; require the social worker to use a person-environment approach to gain an understanding of the family's strengths and resources (Anderson, 2013). The strengths approach allows the family to leverage its own resources and tends to produce more positive and lasting change because the family has responsibility for the plans and changes it is implementing. Furthermore, this approach helps the family to continue to use the skills obtained when required in the future, improving their skills and gr...... half the work ......ure in their family but they have many points of strength to build upon. The family has a deep love for each other and a sincere respect for the well-being of each member. The family has significant support and is financially stable. Additionally, the family works very cooperatively and seems to derive great joy from each other's interactions. Although Kayla faced many traumatic events in her young life, she is generally a happy child and appears to trust her grandparents very much. Kayla shows that she feels very safe and protected at her grandparents' house. She is also a very intelligent and articulate child, which helps her process past trauma better. Although the family has obstacles to overcome, they are committed to achieving the goals they have set and the strategies that are used to leverage their strengths and overcome their difficulties.
