Change and transition in the middle is often difficult for students, so it's not surprising that even a student of Juanita's caliber has trouble. Her regular middle school teachers did not go out of their way to make sure Juanita was successful, if anything it seemed that Juanita was a burden to them. If not for Mrs. Issabelle's efforts, Juanita would have failed sixth grade and perhaps fallen through the cracks of the education system. 6. What do you believe are the central issues in defining the roles and expectations of teachers in Isabelle's and general education classrooms? The central issue with the general education classroom teachers and Mrs. Isabelle is that they were so willing to push Juanita towards Mrs. Isabelle and not make any real effort or make changes themselves. The fact that dealing with Juanita was a hassle that they were overall not willing to put up with and that Juanita was placed in special education even though she was not a good fit statistically. 7.
