A perfect representation of the portrayal of good and evil in a crime novel would be Sherlock Holmes, the good guy, and the ever so brilliant Moriarty, the evil one. Similarly in Luther, Luther explores the area between good and evil; most of the characters are neither truly good nor evil. For example, Luther himself is not entirely good. While his intentions are good, many of his actions backfire. Luther even goes against the law by breaking into Alice Morgan's apartment to steal the dog's ashes. Similar to Holmes' Moriarty, Luther's counterpart would be Alice Morgan. Morgan's intellect and deception drive Luther to pursue her even further. Alice Morgan effortlessly kills both of her parents out of pure hatred towards them. However, the way the character is portrayed doesn't make her seem entirely evil. Cross's repetitive use of the "gray" area between good and evil makes the show fun and entertaining
