Jonathan Boucher was born on 12 March 1738 in Blencogo, Cumberland, northern England. Boucher grew up in a very small village where the majority were poor. The main focus of the kids Boucher grew up with wasn't so much education but they wanted to educate themselves on the ways of the trading system, but on the other hand, Boucher's focus turned more towards his actual education and learning about everything he needed to know. Boucher was first educated by his mother and father, they taught him the basics like reading and writing. Later Boucher went to Wigton Grammar School. Boucher was passionate about education and therefore pursued a career as a teacher. In order to get a good job as a teacher, Boucher would have to move to Virginia. Shortly after, Boucher moved to Virginia and was amazed by what was there. The move to Virginia is what helped shape his life as we know it and build his legacy. On April 27, 1759, Boucher set sail for America and it took him two and a half months to reach land. When Boucher arrived in Virginia he realized that the locals were all about "manners, activities and ways of life." In Virginia Boucher felt at home after having adapted to the daily life of the people. Boucher began to be very hated by many people, people even threatened him on a daily basis. Although nothing happened to Boucher as a result of the threats, he carries weapons for added safety. Boucher's temper is one of the main causes of the separation. As mentioned before, Boucher had a hard time backing out of a fight where he believed he was right. While this was a good thing, it was no longer useful in Boucher's camp. His temper was supposed to help Boucher, but it ultimately made people dislike him even more. The main reason why people strongly disliked him was because of his political views.
