The main cultural influence in “The Kite Runner” is Afghan culture. One of the main influences on Amir is the influence of the kite fighting tournament because it represents happiness and guilt in his life. It makes him happy because it's something he enjoyed doing with Hassan. It makes him feel guilty because he allowed Hassan to be beaten and raped just so he could bring the blue kite back to his father. The other influence in the book was the racism of the Hazaras. Those who first colonized Afghanistan, the Pashtuns, believe that the Hazara people do not deserve to be there, mainly because they believe in a different aspect of the Muslim religion. The latest cultural influence was the Muslim religion. People in Afghanistan mostly believe in that religion and take it very seriously. Amir's dedication to the Muslim religion is brought with him to America and is shown in the process of his marriage
