“You have a brain in your head. Your feet are in your shoes. You can guide yourself in any direction you choose. You are alone. And you know what you know. And you are the one who will decide where to go…” You might say that children's books are not philosophical in nature; however, I beg to differ. I discovered that the plot of Oh, The Places You'll Go! provides readers with philosophical background. The author, Dr. Seuss, composed rhymes that give readers an idea of their future success. Although Seuss did not know the future of every reader, he knew the philosophical background of life and success in general. Seuss' philosophical knowledge can be observed in all his books; however, Oh, the places you will go! provides the greatest philosophical descriptions. While reading Oh, the Places You'll Go! the reader constantly wonders what it means to be successful. Oh, the places you'll go! he constantly reminds his readers that the possibility of success is possible. However, success depends on the path you choose. In turn, achieving this goal is not always easy. I chose Oh, the Places You'll Go! because his lyrics are so powerful. Throughout the book the reader is not only presented with thoughts and questions about success, but also the powerful journey of life. A successful teacher could use this book to promote philosophical thinking in his or her classroom.
