'Men's health is defined as the holistic management of the most common or specific health conditions and risks for men to promote optimal physical, emotional and social health.' Men's sexual health is important, however, men's health goes beyond sexual and reproductive health (The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners 2007). Nurses develop skills that allow them to care for patients in all different levels of disease prevention. By conducting a patient health assessment, a nurse can then begin to promote health and disease prevention by assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the patient to address their current concerns and/or health issues (Berman et al. 2010). In the case of a 29-year-old male, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and reported symptoms of urinary retention, incontinence, and pain. A plan of care was designed and education was provided to enable the patient to achieve his or her goals. Berman et al. (2010, p.183) describe the nursing process as a “systematic and rational method of planning and providing nursing care”. The purpose of the process is to identify the patient's health status and actual or potential health problems, make plans to meet the identified needs, and provide specific nursing interventions to address those needs (Berman et al. 2010).
