Topic > Persuasive Speech on Sex Education - 1346

According to Advocates for Youth, “the committee found that 80 percent of the most popular abstinence-only programs used curricula that distorted information about contraceptive effectiveness, confused religion and science, treated gender stereotypes as scientific fact and contained basic scientific errors.” Most children who participate in these current abstinence-only programs are taught to associate sex with something negative if it is practiced outside of marriage. For this reason, when adolescents decide to have sex – and many of them will – they are less likely to use contraception and more likely to engage in high-risk sexual behaviors. And it's not their fault. They were told nothing about sex except that they shouldn't have it. This misinformation, or lack thereof, is a major reason why the United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the industrial world. So how can we change this situation? We will start by implementing comprehensive sex education in schools and spreading the use of contraceptives among them
