Topic > My personal and professional values in social work

If I start thinking in these terms I will lose the ability to see problems from the perspective of others. For example, I may value availability, but if there is a place or time where I am not adequately trained or informed, then I am not performing competently. How helpful am I if I provide inadequate service? I must always re-evaluate my role and how my values influence my practice. There could be serious implications in my work as a social worker if a conflict arises between my values. I feel that considering whether harm would result from me acting on one value instead of another in a moment of conflict might be what informs my choice. For example, if my value of respecting a person's dignity and worth means respecting an individual's cultural norms, but this cultural norm threatens an individual's safety, then I will have no choice but to go against that value and protect the safety. of the person threatened or harmed. Finally, I would like to discuss the issue of social justice related to human trafficking and how my personal values inform my actions as part of my future anti-human activism.
