The principle of utility and that of ethics governed by pleasure and pain both seem imperfect. How can all our acts be good as long as we seek pleasure for the larger community? This thought is too vague. This is a free pass to do whatever you want as long as it brings people pleasure. Although he claims to believe that ethics should be objective, the previous statement makes it subjective. Ethics, or morality, should be objective. Objective in the sense that there is a general principle that each of us follows in our daily lives. Not to say that every situation requires the same response, but that some things are right and some are not and we need to hold ourselves accountable for the wrong things. Having subjective morality would allow everyone to decide individually whether their actions were right. If this were the case, there would be no basis for creating and sustaining them
