My positive experiences with email have been primarily in gaining information about work-related details. My professors send emails about projects and their deadlines, I send and receive information with an alumnus I am interning with, and I receive rehearsal schedules and other important information regarding any work I am currently involved in with Drama Club. I have also experienced negative impacts on my communication when using email. It has happened to me many times that I have tried to contact someone and my email has never been answered. In terms of interpersonal communication, there have been emails I've sent and I've had to re-establish what I was trying to say because a misunderstanding occurred along the way. As with any form of online communication, misunderstanding could stem from a lack of nonverbal cues or, with many types of communication, it could stem from a lack of shared knowledge. I personally have experienced a decrease in face-to-face communication while engaging in email and other forms of online discussion. There were many times when my friends and I would chat online with each other while sitting in the same room. Specifically, there was a time when a friend and I were sitting in the same room and exchanging emails as a joke, since we don't communicate as much through email as through social media sites like
