With a wide range of schizophrenia symptoms, some form of organization is needed to lead to better understanding, so the symptoms of schizophrenia can be classified into two main categories. The categories that organize the symptoms are positive symptoms and negative symptoms of schizophrenia and all the various disorders it includes. According to Mental Health America, positive symptoms are symptoms that you get through any of the disorders; examples of positive symptoms would be hallucinations, delusions, and disordered speech. Negative symptoms are things the person loses because of the disorder; examples of negative symptoms could be social withdrawal or lack of initiative and drive.
