Effective leadership and management are essential aspects in terms of the success of a healthcare organization. A great leader can discover what is universal and take advantage of it by motivating employees towards a better future. Great leaders overcome differences in race, age, gender, nationality and personality; using stories and celebrating heroes (Buckingham, 2005). Great managers, on the other hand, know the unique abilities and eccentricities of their employees, and know how to integrate them into a coordinated action plan (Buckingham, 2005). Buckingham (2005) further explains that identifying and exploiting each person's uniqueness saves time and also makes each person more accountable. Furthermore, by capitalizing, great managers develop a stronger sense of teamwork and introduce a healthy degree of disruption essential to the success of any organization. Buckingham (2005) provides an example of how a customer service representative named Manjit at a Walgreens store in San Jose, California, consistently outperformed his colleagues. Manjit was a regular artist until the current shop owner, Mr. Jim, came on board. Mr Jim proved to be a great manager by quickly identifying Manjit's idiosyncrasies and translating them into exceptional performance. Manjit loved public recognition, and Jim recognized this by highlighting his scores in red on the walls and also hanging photos documenting his success. The other employees in the store quickly understood that Jim saw his employees as distinct individuals and valued them based on their personal strengths. As a result, other employees began to perform well, and soon Mr. Jim's store became Walgreens' number one store due to his great management skills (Buckingham...do they make managers?
