Maritess SuttonProfessor WoodEnglish 101-2420 February 2014 From Homeschool to College: Into the UnknownI had no idea what to expect when I started college. I had always thought about it, but, because I was homeschooled my whole life, I knew nothing about public school life, let alone college life. Everything about college was completely new to me, like having to walk from class to class or making sure I was on time. There were many aspects of college life that I had to adapt to during this new transition in my life. As I transitioned from home school to college, I encountered many difficulties trying to overcome new challenges inside and outside of the classroom and, at the same time, trying to adapt to an unfamiliar environment. Before all the hardships and challenges I would face in college, my life was very different. When I was still in high school, I was carefree and easy-going. I didn't have to worry about taking notes or studying for an important test. I didn't have to meet deadlines because I did my work at my own pace. Basically, Monday through Friday, I would wake up around 7:00 am. and I would start doing my work, taking regular breaks, and then finish around 3.30pm. I essentially had my own schedule and never had to worry about being late for class. Before, driving in the rain or snow wasn't a problem for me. I didn't have to wonder if class would be canceled. My life was definitely a lot simpler before college. Being homeschooled, in a way, spoiled me and definitely didn't prepare me for what I would face in college. Some of the difficulties and challenges I faced in the classroom were regular daily occurrences. The first aspect of college life that I had trouble adjusting to was being… middle of paper… use. I always do my homework and study, and I've gotten much better at managing test anxiety. But overall, my college life has been and will continue to constantly change and adapt to new challenges and opportunities as they arise. It's been a learning experience and I imagine it will continue. At first, university life was very hard for me inside and outside the classroom. Inside the classroom, I had to learn to manage test anxiety, take better notes, focus more, and not be so distracted. I learned to manage test anxiety and take better notes. Outside of the classroom, I had to learn to study effectively, do homework every day, meet deadlines, manage my time wisely, and avoid procrastination. I have learned how to overcome these challenges by learning from my mistakes and being determined to succeed.
