In such a competitive world, how ethical can a company really be? Discuss. Ethics are the moral principles that govern a person's behavior. And in business, it is incorporating it into corporate policies and practices regarding controversial issues, such as fraud, bribery, discrimination and corruption. In other words, it is the correctness, right and wrong of an action. Business ethics are often guided by law as other companies create their own structure. However, companies have conflicting duties, such as making a profit, working efficiently but obeying the law, otherwise suffer the consequences. Even though people start businesses to make money, companies need to understand that building a company is more than simply creating billions. When a leader is clear about what he or she values and believes, others who share those values and beliefs will follow suit. The challenge of moral intelligence is not to distinguish right from wrong, but to do against knowledge. (Lennick and Kiel, 2005) We live in a time where there is moral confusion. Every day we are bombarded with news about global dilemmas such as terrorism, global warming, energy shortages, corporate scandals and corruption. All these problems without a clear solution. (Hester and Killian, 2010). To make a difference, today's leaders must face these daily obstacles with valor, integrity and moral courage. How a company can be ethical in a competitive world starts first with the leaders. I believe that doing the right thing will always bear fruit. Because those leaders who lead by example by making ethical business decisions deserve applause. I think a leader with a strong moral compass will inspire their employees to follow their ethical leadership and create a vision and one day align themselves with those who hope to bring about change. They can be ethical when they start to give importance to what will improve our society and our organizations today and not on a personal level
