Topic > Dante and Boccaccio compared - 1372

Talking about Dante and Boccaccio is, perhaps, the most complex thing to do in a single sitting. Their differences and similarities are so obvious in one way but also, in another way, so vague. If you want to do their compare and contrast, you should consider doing a thorough research because in every source you search, you find other interesting points. Their aspects are separate from each other. Their appearances, but also their writing styles, life and thoughts towards the events they experience, show some differences. For example ; both used the Italian vernacular in their works in the 14th century world that the writing language is Latin. Apart from that, they can have many contrasts but I especially want to talk about their different aspects in love. Their family life and high passion for literature seem, one might say, practically the same. When it comes to love, both are deeply affected by the women they fall in love with. They even write some songs dedicated to them, and their love also affects their other works. Beatrice is a girl with whom Dante falls in love when he was nine and she was eight. Dante falls in love with her at first sight but the two meet for the first time in nine years. That day, he falls asleep and has a dream about her that will also have a great influence on his work, La Vita Nuova. He sees her as a divine beauty and the symbol of purity. Her first greeting to him also occupies an important place in the following paragraphs: When exactly nine years had passed since this merciful being had appeared to me, as I have described, it happened that on the last day of this intermediate period this wonder appeared before me again to me, dressed in pure white, walking between two other women with a distinguished bearing, both out...... middle of paper ......their love life and the effects of it on their life and, above all , on the works. I think they are the writer's works, representing his natural thoughts and feelings. He can keep his feelings between the lines, he doesn't have to show it directly but at least he could have talked about it. In conclusion, the ideas of any two people may show some similarities in some ways but in the end it shows the contrast, because life, love, style and circumstances that each one goes through, are different from each other and also their effects. Love is not something to be underestimated, no matter what others say, it is you who has to make the decision. Because it is once or twice that you find your soul, your ideas and the same feelings with you, in that of another. As Aristotle says; ''Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies. ‘’
