More than 2000 years have passed since man discovered music. Music is an art of sound over time that expresses ideas and emotions in meaningful forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color (anonymous, 2014). It began as a simple drumming of materials that produced sounds and later developed with the invention of musical instruments such as stringed instruments. The development of music evolves from prehistory to the present period. The music has been very popular among people, not only adults but also teenagers and children. Its popularity can be attributed to the components of music such as lyrics, genres, artists and, in particular, the fact that it forms a major part of current media. Researchers have come up with this topic due to the influence of music in the present time and the stress one is encountering recently. In this article, researchers will provide the definition of music and stress before reliable sources and not just something that is self-explanatory. Different stressful situations and the effects of music on teenagers will also be discussed in this article. Additionally, researchers will present explanations of how music helps relieve stress. To this day, other researchers conduct further studies on music. One of them is music as medicine. Novotney (2013) states that researchers are still studying how music therapy can improve health outcomes among people. Most of the findings only lead to how music affects health. Researchers have found that listening to and playing music increases the body's production of immunoglobulin A and natural killer cells, cells that attack invading viruses and increase the effectiveness of the immune system.
