Topic > An Army of Symbolism in A Worn Path by Eudora Welty

In the story of “A Worn Path” symbolism is used in multiple ways to describe the many things encountered along the path. The journey through the worn path is a symbolism of the path of life. Even the obstacles he encounters along the way are equivalent to life's trials. For example, Lady Gaga's hit single “Born this Way” tells the story of a “new race” created within humanity. Don't race alone, but slowly develop into everyone around. It is also for better or for worse that the world turns. For example, the concept of yin-yang is symbolized by good and bad in things, describing the opposing forces within these two objects. For example, light and dark, life and death, male and female, and so on. The story is set in the Natchez area, in the southwestern state of Mississippi. The trail is an old highway that runs from Nashville, Tennessee, to Natchez, Mississippi. The story begins in the woods and eventually leads to the city of Natchez. This occurred in December, during Christmas in the 1940s. In the story Phoenix Jackson is an old blind lady who takes a little journey in the cold winter days to the city to get medicine for her grandson who she cares so much about. On her journey she passes through many obstacles and faces many dangers, but her love for her nephew keeps her strong and united. Some time ago, her nephew swallowed some lye which made him very sick and he needs medicine to relieve the pain. In the article "Symbolism in 'A Worn Path'" "Jackson has to go to town" to Reyes2get medicine for his nephew. He begins his journey one cold morning along the path he knows very well. She was wearing a striped dress that reached all the way down... to the middle of the paper... up to her nephew. Keep reaching your goals, don't give up. People have it worse than you, like the Phoenix who was blind and helpless, but continued her destination to get medicine for her nephew. Works Cited Beller, Michele.
