Topic > Respect in Igbo Culture Essay - 764

could be about this or see that respect should be a more important part in society than it is. Elders are always highly respected in Igbo culture, the reader might be able to witness some kind of connection to this by seeing him or knowing the Egwugwu. these are a group of masked men impersonating the tribe's ancestors. This could certainly be considered attractive or attractive from an outside culture's perspective. Okonkwo was well known far and beyond his nine villages and was highly respected, respect for the Igbo tribe is everything. Everything Igbo tribe members do can and will reflect how that individual is viewed/respected. things the reader might find in Igbo culture to play into the role of respect would be the respect the elders receive from the tribe, or wrestling and Okonkwo, is highly respected for his wrestling skills and the deaths he caused in war Now we should take into consideration the bad things, the abominations of Igbo cultures, and that doesn't mean that it is bad literally, but just saying that other cultures will consider these things morally unacceptable. Some of the practices of the Igbo such as eating insects could be considered an abomination to societies like America, when they see insects they feel disgusted by them and have no intention of eating them, but when you look at the Igbo tribe you will find that they see locusts as a delicacy and eat them over a long period of time with many different meal styles. This for the American people would be seen as an abomination, since Americans have a fair amount of feeling towards locusts, they would be disgusted by the fact that people actually eat them for meals. This was a rare appearance and… middle of the paper… a discovery of how their culture might view the reader culture and how the reader culture seems right to them. Also coming to the consensus that there are no wrong ways in cultures, but this is just how they live and enjoy life just like the reader does in their own culture. Now, knowing that there is nothing wrong with cultures, one should take all perspectives and see that the things they once saw as abominations are only things of interest to that society and that the society will fill itself in the same way as its culture, their interests, things like sports, war (I don't know an interest but it's still something they will find abhorrent), food, clothes, religion. These are all aspects that most will find in thoughts abominable. So the reader should consider these perspectives to see and reflect on the question: what really is an abomination?
