Topic > The Harmful Effect of Technology on Society - 1256

Nowadays, technology seems to be almost everywhere we go. With the advancements of cell phones, computers, video games, cars, and iPods, our lives have become much easier than ever before. Technology is created because society always wants to find more efficient ways to accomplish certain tasks. Without technology, humanity would not have discovered things that most of us know today, such as the world, animals, science, and the like. However, society does not benefit much from it, apart from school and work obligations. Technology has become a necessity for all of us, even if it definitely changes our mental habits. Due to technological advances, the United States is becoming more and more dependent on it, which is causing society to become more antisocial and less motivated. Technology is ubiquitous because it has impacted us, especially through communication between others. As a society, we are becoming lazy because of technology; people are realizing that there is no wasted time running errands. Presby's article "How Technology and Science Has Made Us Lazy -" tells us that we don't "even need to leave the house, [or] go to the mailbox to mail anything" and we are losing our social interaction with each other . (Presby). Technology has helped improve ways of communicating. The article "The History of the Telephone" explains the invention of the telephone in 1876 and how it greatly helped the society of its time (Bellis). Communication seemed to be very simple back then, and it continues to get simpler, according to the article “Modern Ways of Communication”. With communication through email, social networking sites, and cell phones, it's easier to keep in touch. ...."E-mail lowers IQ." Web. 11 November 2009..Idiocracy. Dir.
