5A and 5B is to identify and embed conversations. Starting a conversation involves writing an essay about an ongoing topic that is usually polarizing or controversial. As a writer, it is my job to state the topic, take a position, provide multiple perspectives, and ultimately explain the meaning of the topic. I first started using this technique during my senior year of high school in my expository reading and writing class. For example, I had to write an essay arguing whether or not physician-assisted suicide should be legalized. I argued that federal legalization of the bill could lead to individuals devaluing life; however, terminally ill patients felt they should have a say in whether or not they should take their own lives rather than suffer the torments of their illness. This highlights my previous experience with conversations with more
