I want to read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, her most brilliant novel, because she has composed a story that is timeless and analogous to anyone who takes the time to read it. While reading this story you are sucked into the historical period, into the lives of the characters and you have the feeling of living them with them. The novel is set in Longbourn, rural England, sometime during the Napoleonic Wars, from 1797 to 1815. Basically, the plot of Pride and Prejudice consists of Elizabeth Bennent and Mr. Darcy defeating all the obstacles placed before them and they find true love in each other. All the characters in Pride and Prejudice are absolutely different, but somehow they are the same. Elizabeth Bennent, the protagonist, one of the best-known female characters in English literature. Second daughter of the Bennet family, she is thought to be in her 20s. Her honesty, virtue and lively spirit allow her to overcome the absurdity that pervades her classist society. She must reevaluate her previous impressions of Mr. Darcy and discover the truth, that she is completely and totally in love with him. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Elizabeth's male counterpart, son of a rich and established family and master of the great Pemberley estate. Mr. Darcy appears haughty and proud, this is a result of his high birth and wealth. When Elizabeth rejects his marriage proposal, humility grows in him; for this reason, he shows his true feelings when he saves his sister and her family from disgrace. Jane, Elizabeth's sister, and Charles Bingley, Mr. Darcy's best friend, begin a courtship that occupies the central place in the novel, they become a couple long before Elizabeth even thinks of Mr. Darcy. The kind… half of Jane's life… and how it ended, especially Elizabeth and Jane. Pride and Prejudice was recently turned into a successful film, the cast played the character of the great novel in an extraordinary way. I saw the movie before reading the book, the movie was wonderful and I loved it. After seeing the film I decided to read the book to see how it compared to the film, the book has more detail than the film but they are both excellent. Anyone who has seen the movie should definitely read the book. Nearly two hundred years after Pride and Prejudice was written, it still remains one of the greatest books of all time. This novel is a must for anyone who loves a good romance or someone who just wants to pick up a fabulous book. Pride and Prejudice has sold around 20 million copies and is considered one of the greatest love stories of all time for a reason.
