Consisted of sixteen poems and seven short stories. The stories contained in this volume had already been published in periodicals. This collection of works proved to be a commercial failure, but this was attributed to wartime and a lack of funds from the public to purchase the volume. Much to Thomas' chagrin, the material in his third release was described as surreal. Annis Pratt quoted Thomas as saying, “I don't care where the images of a poem are dragged from; drag them up, if you will, from the deepest sea of the hidden self; but, before reaching the paper, they must pass through all the rational processes of the intellect” regarding its work. The works in this volume show that Thomas' mind's eye had begun to reflect on different things. His work had begun to be written in response to events in his life at the time, such as an argument he had with his wife, the birth of his son, and the death of his son.
