Now, cultural misunderstandings are rightly blamed for the failure of many international joint ventures, resulting in much personal stress and financial loss. Although culture is a difficult subject to learn, it is necessary to learn it and there are three reasons why intercultural studies has become a required subject in many countries; the growing international population, the vision of culture and the development of business and society. First of all, the reason is the development of business and society. “Cultural norms refer to collective expectations about what constitutes proper or improper behavior in a given situation. They serve as a standard or set of rules for what we should or should not do in a conflict scene” (Stella Ting-Toomey, 2001 pp11). Given this explained, we know that if we want to do business or enter another country, the first thing we must do is to deeply understand what the culture is. What is culture? Culture is a learned meaning system that aims to foster a specific sense of common characteristics of communities in one's team members and transmitted by other people in a society. Members of a culture learn meanings of right and wrong that produce particular consequences in different communities. They learn the meanings or interpretations of what constitutes proper and improper conflict behavior by adhering to or deviating from such behavior in a particular community. After knowledge of culture, people must know the culture of the countries in which they participate. Each country has different culture and tradition, if people do something wrong, they may lose the chance to join or do business in other countries. They want success to promise some rules; for example, respect for others d...... middle of paper ......n mind and equality for people. Through intercultural studies, students can understand and appreciate the culture of another nationality or country. Cross-cultural studying pushes students to learn more about local culture and can boost their confidence. In addition, teaching students about other cultures and countries, cultivating attitudes towards other cultures, and ignoring gender, ethnicity, religion, social class, age, etc. In conclusion, there are three reasons why intercultural studies has become a required subject in many countries; the growing international people, the vision of culture and development of business and society. The increase in international people is the main reason; it can bring relationships between people closer. In this world, there are many reasons not to include this essay, but each reason has one main idea, that is, a good relationship with every person.
