When a player receives a concussion, the person's brain becomes very weak and sensitive to strenuous activities. For example, in one particular story, a freshman high school student named Sarah was a straight-A student. During a game Sarah received a concussion which drastically changed her ability to do well in school. “My concussion didn't just sideline me from sports; he also excluded me from school. Before my injury, I took advanced classes. Soon after, I couldn't even solve simple math problems in my head and couldn't keep up with my classes. Without additional support, my injury could have had a significant negative impact on my academic record.” (CDC, 2015) This is a great example of how the protective helmet could have helped prevent this concussion and not harm a student's academic performance.
