The Great Depression, which lasted from 1929 to 1939, was a pivotal decade that involved famines, rising suicide rates, and international financial contraction. Since the stock market was made up of international stocks, when the October 1929 crash, major banks failed around the world, causing trade losses to several countries due to the relationship with the United States at the time. In Argentina, the situation was aggravated by the Concordancia and the political and social unrest in the country at that time. Import substitution industrialization has been a tactic used in Argentina and internationally to repair the country's economy. The depression of the 1930s in Argentina was one of the most devastating internationally. In 1929, Argentina had the fourth highest gross domestic product; however, a few months later, this would no longer be considered the case. Whereas the economy was heavily dependent on foreign trade for daily essential products, the economy was deficient in vital goods and therefore lacked a major industry. At the time dependent mainly on foreign capital from Great Britain, the domestic industry was seriously affected by the market collapse due to the suspension of British domestic capital investment. Through the domino effect, mass and widespread unemployment was an important and constant theme in Argentine culture at the time. This further impacted that government revenues dropped significantly as the country's exports blamed investments and imports dropped exponentially due to the international depression. As a result of the decline in national revenues, large deficits began to appear. To make up for the countries' lack of profits, the government began to borrow more... half of paper......and in step with Argentina's industrialization. However, political corruption and voter fraud were a constant problem during this period. Finally, in 1944, the General Confederation of Labor overthrew the Concordancia and controlled the country. In conclusion, the Great Depression of October 1929 caused periods of economic decline in several countries around the world. In Argentina, the policy of concordance and import substitution industrialization helped repair the damaged economy. Through countering Irigoyen's isolation and deficit-fixing tactics, the economy was finally able to return to healthy, stable form. Works Cited "The Great Depression Concordancia".
