Many times an object or character can easily be better understood when a symbol is used to represent it. As in sports, colors, mascots, animals and symbols are also used to give an image to the team. The Oakland Raiders use a tough, tough raider to show the character and strength of their football organization and by using that symbol they can instill some intimidation without even stepping on the field. The symbols are also used on the road, at a traffic light it shines with 3 different colors, green to go, yellow to slow down and red to stop. Each color represents something different. Symbols are used even in the simplest things, like when making a phone call. Each button on a smartphone has its own individual function which is possible by clicking on a button which in our case is a symbol on the smartphone. These are just some of the examples of symbolism in everyday life. In the short story A Worn Path, an elderly black woman named Phoenix Jackson from Natchez, Mississippi, embarks on a treacherous journey to find medicine for her ailing grandson. A nearly blind Phoenix Jackson woman crosses many obstacles to reach the city to reach her grandson. She also had streams and ridges to go along, all there was to cross was a fallen tree that was now a dry log, Phoenix crossed this log with all instinct because she... middle of paper... .. .what happens in the whole story. Reasons for what is happening and why. The entire story is strongly linked with symbolism which acts as a link between the story and its true meaning. We can now understand everything in "A Worn Path" thanks to the new understanding that symbolism offers us.
