Effective communication Communication is an inevitable process of human connection to knowledge, learning and social interaction. Through communication, individuals are able to convey their thoughts and feelings in various ways with the hope perhaps in the desired outcome that others will understand what is being conveyed. Communication is an exchange between individuals through words, body language and symbols. Seventy percent of an individual's day consists of some form of communication (Wallace & Roberson, 2009). From people in groups chatting and listening to each other, sitting in front of the television, watching local, state and national news, or two people exchanging messages via their mobile devices or personal computers are some examples of communication. In fact, this article, “Effective Communication,” is also another form of communication. The Communication Process and the Components of Each Webster's New World Dictionary Online defines communication as the activity of communicating or transmitting information; something communicated by or between people or groups (Webster's Dictionary Online, 2006). Communication is a process of exchanging verbal and non-verbal ideas involving an interaction of people or groups with the aim of the information exchanged interpreted as intended. The communication process flow requires the following five basic steps; (1) Context of an idea, (2) transmitting/encoding the message through a chosen medium, (3) receiver/decoder receiving the information, (4) understanding the information, and (5) feedback to the sender (Wallace & Roberson, 2009).
