In the story “A Worn Path” the author uses symbolism throughout the story, symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. The symbolism is the part of the story that isn't so literal, it's the part of the story where you have to use your mind to find it, sometimes it can be really hard but most of the time it's really easy. In some stories there are many, but in others there are not many. As in our story, A Worn Path by Eudora Welty, there are many. This short story is about an old black lady, whose name is Phoenix Jackson, who makes sacrifices, for her grandson, she has to go to Natchez, it is a city far from where Phoenix Jackson lives. He goes there to get some medicine for his nephew. This lady faced many obstacles on her way, such as falling into a ditch, and she was angry with herself for falling, but in reality it was a dog that made her fall into it, she needed help but no one helped her until on white day the hunter came to help her, he didn't think she had a good reason to go to town so he told her to go back, but she said she had to go for something important, then she saw a penny on the floor which was probably from the white hunter , he understood it when the white hunter was distracted then the white hunter pointed his gun at her, she wasn't scared so the white hunter respected it and said if he 'had a dime' he would give it to her” (Welty 1278), which was quite ironic because Phoenix had the dime and the white hunter didn't know it, so it was as if the white hunter had given her the dime. She had to cross a barbed wire fence, she had to cross a stream, and if she had fallen into the stream, she could have died because I... middle of paper... through it .Works Cited123 Help me, Publishers, “The Symbolism in 'A Worn Path” 123help me.
