However, after using the Writer's Diet diagnostic tool, I was concerned to learn that my first attempt had been labeled a "heart attack." He pointed out errors such as "wasted words" (e.g. this, that, there), as well as the number of verbs being too high. Researching my mistakes through textbooks and sites like Paper Rater (http://www.paperrater.com/) has given me a deeper look into whether I can readjust my writing techniques. Through these sites, I was able to realize the importance of drafting, revising, and editing to produce a more academic writing style. I am aware that my writing skills may not always be correct or adequate, and this is becoming quite obvious the more I learn to research and point out my flaws. Writers Diet gave me a brief analysis of the areas I should focus on improving. However, after scoring fairly well on almost every aspect assessed, my only major issue was with “wasted words” and verb count. Through the entire unit so far, including research done to reflect on my personal writing skills, I am able to identify areas to improve on and discover strategies to do.
