Discover how the poems Prayer Before Birth, Mother in a Refugee Camp, War Photographer, and three other poems consider the trials and/or fears of life. The trials and fears of life are something that is explored throughout literature and poetry. It is something very powerful and there are many poems that reveal a whole new world of fears and trials of life. The poems: "Prayer Before Birth", "Mother in a Refugee Camp" and "War Photographer" are poems as strong as the fears and trials of life shown in the poem. In 'Prayer before Birth', written by Louis MacNeice during World War II, the person (an unborn child) shows his fear of entering the world and is scared of what the world can do to innocent people: he does through a form of prayer in which one asks to move away from the danger that the future may hold. “A Mother in a Refugee Camp,” written by Chinua Achebe, is about the mother of her dying child who continues to care for him. The poem talks about the horrible conditions they had to live in and describes death that cannot be avoided and the loss of loved ones. “War Photographer,” written by Carol Ann Duffy, describes the internal battle of a war photographer as he returns home to England after completing a tour. He finds it difficult to hold back his feelings as the horror and terror he witnessed resurfaces in his normal life. WH Auden wrote “Refugee Blues” in which the character talks to his wife about how they belong nowhere because they are Jews. “The Seed Merchant's Son”, written by Agnez Grozier Herbertson, is about the loss of her son, however, towards the end of the poem, there is a positive ending when the seed merchant finds himself in the great outdoors. Finally, "The Target" with... in the center of the paper... shows the great love for a child and the feeling that the mother will never give up on her child even if he is unfortunately dying. In "The Seed Merchant's Son", the seed merchant lost his son in the war and this had a huge impact on his life. Similar to "a mother in a refugee camp", the seed trader is unable to let go of his son and he has been affected worse than his son who died. Another poem, “The Target,” is very strong because it shows how ineffective war is. This shows that soldiers fighting in war don't want to fight each other and that war is something that people fight for, even though it may be something they don't necessarily agree with. Last but not least, "War Photographer" is a poem that shows Carol Anne Duffy's reaction to all the suffering and how human beings are selfish because their sympathy for those who suffer does not last long..
