Topic > Definition of Feminism - 1913

For example, one of the common ideas or points to take away from everyone's presentations on their respective academic papers, was that there are still some obstacles for women seeking to work in STEM fields. These barriers range from biases in hiring processes, which we have discussed several times in class using the example of two identical theoretical candidates with only their names changed, to the difficulties for young women to enter STEM fields. While these barriers are not a matter of life and death, nor necessarily a problem for feminists to solve, they represent one way that feminism could help improve women in some way. Furthermore, if feminists were able to break down some of these barriers to entry into STEM fields, then they would be able to begin to break down biases within the field itself; this, in turn, would create an environment free of prejudice against women and help break several stereotypes, including the rather common one that men are intrinsically stronger in mathematics and science.
