IntroductionThe purpose of this research paper is to study how Marines use and work their bodies in a military environment using the film "A Few Good Men" (1992) as a controlled environment. Becoming a Marine requires hours of grueling training that transforms the body into a perfect example of athletic prowess. I want to see how Marines use their bodies to demonstrate language, demonstrate strength, and perhaps overcome mental barriers they didn't know they had. The authority that marines have and use against each other with their bodies is expressed in this film. In this article, physical movement and social pressures to perform physical tasks will be analyzed. Research Question The research question I hope to answer or at least bring to light is how are soldiers' bodies different from others? Others are defined as people who engage in moderate exercise but are not athletic; the average human being. While all body types are unique, an army must be made up of the strongest in order to fight in war. Current illnesses will prevent you from being drafted due to the risk of harm to yourself or others in the field. The film is set at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba, away from society to allow soldiers to train. Private William Santiago is killed in the film by two other Marines, Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Louden Downey, pinning him down and giving him what they call a "code red," which is a type of discipline that isn't the most orthodox. or legal. The rigorous training that Marines go through to serve their country is very different from the regular exercise that say you and I would do. Their body becomes their weapon and, in this case, it can become a killer. The power they had… middle of the paper… Overall, my research question was clearly answered. Marines engage in physical activities that are much more different from normal activities. Their physiques are remarkable, due to the stress of becoming trained assassins. The burden of striving for physical perfection is voluntary and the results of this hard work are evident. At the height of their physical strength, Marines are able to use their body as a weapon, and their mental capacity allows them to act differently than others. The ability to transform their bodies into war-ready units comes through the hard work of pushing limits, the endless pursuit of perfection, and the push their superior officers give them to succeed. While what they eat may not differ from what we would eat, the resolve of the Marines and the respect they give and carry weighs much more heavily on their shoulders than on ours..
