Many opioid users become addicted to the substance because doctors overprescribe it. “In the United States, in 2008, there were 14,800 annual deaths from prescription (PO) opioids, while the United States has fewer restrictions (Fischer, Benedikt, et al 178). The United States has implemented more regulations so that “the high levels of PO-related harm associated with highly potent oxycodone formulas” decrease (Fischer, Benedikt, et al 178). With regulations, that doesn't change the fact that opioids are destructive. Regulations help by decreasing the likelihood of patients becoming addicted to opioids. There are many generations that are affected and harmed by the harmful effects of opioids on opioid addicts.
