When I first found out that I had been approved for an internship abroad in Italy, I was very excited and couldn't wait to tell my family and to my friends. But a few days later it occurred to me that I would be traveling alone in a country where I knew no one. Not to mention I was already afraid of planes. But after talking about it with my mother, I realized that not everyone has the chance to live in a different country and gain the experience of working abroad. I remembered when I first found out I had been accepted into Salisbury and the fear I had about moving alone to a city where I knew no one. I took a chance and moved in with three strangers who I now call my friends, taking the risk paid off big time and I knew that taking a bigger risk in a foreign country had the potential to pay off even more. During my classes in Salisbury I slowly learned that taking risks in my projects and papers seemed to work better than playing it safe. I have also learned to be more independent both in life and in lessons. I felt more comfortable raising my hand and sharing my opinions, something I had rarely felt confident enough to do throughout high school and community college. I have seen growth in my participation particularly in the three courses I have taken with Professor Burton and
