The sociological approach to social problems is different from many social science studies. Sociology connects to social problems that are local or global; as well as social problems discovered in individuals and groups. Equally important is the sociological study that measures the effect of people and society. “As a social science, sociology offers an objective and systematic approach to understanding the causes of social problems.” (Leon-Guerrero, 2011, pp. 5-6) Unfortunately, some social problems remain more significant than other social problems. Subsequently due to the danger and/or severity it may cause to some or many people in society. (Crone, 2011, p. 7)There are several social problems in society that require immediate attention, due to the serious and dangerous impact on several people, as well as communities. The social problem addressed is relative poverty in America. Relative poverty in America affects many people across different groups, such as race/ethnicity, age, and gender. While many Americans may be able to meet their basic needs, they may not be able to afford healthcare, help those in absolute poverty, or get an education. In my experience, there has been a terrible barrier to employment for many Americans. In 2007, thousands of these Americans who held jobs in various employment sectors were forced out of their jobs. Numerous employment industries have moved their operations overseas, leaving behind widespread unemployment in America. According to statistics, in 2008 there was a poverty rate of 13.2%, compared to the most recent low poverty rate of 11.3% in 2000. the comparison demonstrates the increase in poverty level within 8 years… …middle of the paper……so the choice we make as individuals, such as how to spend our earnings, etc. creates the place of class society us inside. We all want our family members to be safe, secure, educated, healthy and happy. The decrease in income may suggest to other family members to stop studying and look for work. The decrease in income can also separate the family unit, because for some people adapting to change is unthinkable. If there are young, middle-aged children in the family, this may lead them to commit crimes due to materialistic desires. There may be general poverty and there is help for people, but people are in control of their own destiny. Works Cited Crone, J. (2011) How can we solve our social problems?
