The Man Who Will Always Be Remembered The man who changed America and the way everyone thought about electricity. Benjamin Franklin was a busy and industrious child, a scientist who conducted many experiments, and an extraordinary statesman who was instrumental in the American Revolution. Franklin was too poor to attend formal education, he became interested in the study of electricity and began his journey by being elected as one of Pennsylvania's delegates. Before Franklin became a great man, it all began with his childhood. Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States (World of Earth Science). The fifteenth and youngest child in a family of 17 children, Franklin did not appreciate the comfort of a proper, high-level education or entrenched wealth and status. Being in a large family with many siblings, Franklin was too poor to attend formal school growing up. In 1714, at the age of eight, Benjamin Franklin attended Boston Grammar School. This was his total of two years of formal education (historic world leaders). At the age of 10 Franklin was working in his father's shop. Subsequently he became involved with his brother, a printer, where he became passionate about books (World of Earth Science). Franklin learned to be a demanding editor and a refined writer. Franklin was a prolific writer from the age of 12 until the year of his death (world historical leaders). Benjamin Franklin ran a newspaper, the Pennsylvania Gazette, in Philadelphia, in 1726. For the next 25 years, Franklin's printing press annually printed Poor Richard's Almanac. Franklin retired from business in 1748 (Benjamin Franklin).
