In my country, South Korea, when two people communicate with each other, active listeners are more valued as we believe that appropriate response and attentive behavior come from the essence of listening ability. Foreigners who are not from an Asian country may misunderstand the intentions of the senders if they do not actively respond to the recipient during the conversation as they are not aware of our customs and values. Therefore, it is imperative to put yourself in someone else's shoes in order to understand what the misunderstanding of intention might look like.
