“How a Street Prostitute Is Like a Santa Claus in a Department Store” from Super Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner reflects the idea that over the centuries women have been treated unfairly in life. Many countries continue to treat women disrespectfully and often cause them to engage in inhumane activities. “Young women in Cameroon have their breasts 'ironed', by tapping or massaging them with a wooden pestle or heated coconut shells, to make them less sexually appealing” (Levitt and Dubner, 2009, p. 20). The chapter goes on to talk about how women in the United States are treated unfairly differently. In the United States, women receive lower wages than men in almost all sectors (both public and private), with the exception of the prostitution business. The reason why prostitution is becoming so profitable is due to the fact that prostitution is illegal in most of the United States. of the country and follows the laws of supply and demand. “When you lock out a supplier, you create a shortage that inevitably drives up the price and entices more suppliers to enter the market” (Levitt and Dubner, 2009, p. 24). By making prostitution illegal, those who engage in prostitution and remain on the streets are able to obtain generous compensation because sex is a natural desire and, probably, a need for human beings, with a high demand, but a poor offer. Because of this, the price of sex increases, thus allowing those in prostitution to receive higher financial compensation. Levitt and Dubner also touched on the topic of oral and anal sex, price discrimination, and how prostitution and premarital sex can be seen as substitutes for each other, as well as others engaging in p... ...half of the newspaper ......marketing plan to produce.ReferencesBandyk, M.
