In Watchman by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, we are introduced to a character who has had a troubled past that has led to a troubled present. Rorschach as a child went to visit his mother with one of her Johns which caused him trauma as a child. Throughout his life he never really discussed what he had encountered that led to the violent attacks he has now. If Rorschach had had someone to talk to about the things that happened to him, he could have saved the life he lives now. According to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, “children ages 0 to 6 commonly suffer from cognitive, behavioral, and physiological conditions.” Some of the conditions they talked about related to Rorschach are poor verbal skills, excessive temper, aggressive behavior, fear of people who remind them of a traumatic event, and withdrawn behavior. We see Rorschach's poor verbal skills as he writes his journal entries throughout the book.
