The organization must know itself, the people who work for them and the reality that exists. This goes hand in hand with the idea of the Poetic Principle. It is one of many theories used to understand appreciative inquiry but, for me, it is the most important phase leading to the 4D cycle. An organization cannot reach the first stage of discovery without the right attitude towards each individual and their value. The Poetic Principle believes in the history between the individual and the organization. The two can develop each other to gather information to create a better future; they can be facts, feelings or experiences coming from members. This gives the organization the opportunity to really look at itself, the people, and evaluate what they really want. (Fifolt, Lander, 2013, p. 21). This is the perfect first step leading to 4D
