The 1950s were a decade of traditional, middle-class, suburban white family values. At that time, the standard family consisted of a man who worked and provided for his wife and children, and a stay-at-home mom who did all the cooking, cleaning, and caring for the children. The 1950s could very well be compared to the television programs of the time; boring. It was rock and roll that added a vibrant splash of color to mid-20th century American society and continued to impact the world for years to come. It has affected our social livelihood; how we speak, how we dress and interact. Politics has also been influenced by music. Decisions regarding the Vietnam War and even the formation of new regulatory agencies occurred partly or entirely in rock and roll fashion. Many will also argue the influence he had, as well as the influence he drew from the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
