Summary: The first coordinated national AIDS education campaign was launched only in 1988, since then there has been an increase in attempts to educate all people in United States on HIV and AIDS prevention. Unfortunately, the number of infections has not seen a significant decline and actually some increase in the number of infections over the past decade within two specific groups: young gay men and young women of color. Trojan is one of the most commonly known and recognized brands for presenting pregnancy and illness. While there are other brands out there that continue to gain market share, if Trojan can capture the attention and business of these two demographics, it can firmly establish itself as a company that cares about social issues and can gain a positive outlook in the eyes of the public. through marketing to these demographics. This report will provide Trojan with the vehicle and message on how to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS in these two groups and how they can increase sales. Ultimately, with increased brand loyalty from these groups and a positive outlook from the public, Trojan's dominant market share will only grow, thus increasing profits and capital for other desired investments. Background: The primary goal of the research project is to understand how to reach young people across America, as HIV and AIDS are on the rise among black women and gay men under the age of 25 in the United States according to AIDSACTION.org, the national voice on AIDS. The increase in the number of young people, especially young people of color, contracting HIV/AIDS has caused much concern in the United States. For African Americans, AIDS is still a leading cause of death and is the leading cause of death for African American women. The Trojan Condom Company hopes to be the primary tool in promoting awareness of this growing statistic and encouraging prevention methods. Trojan believes that “sexual health is best achieved through personal awareness, communication, and access to accurate information and services.” Research Objectives: The Trojan Condom Company is aware of the growing AIDS epidemic in the United States population. Our goal is to determine the most at-risk demographics using secondary data and how Trojan Condoms can effectively market to those groups to help prevent the spread of AIDS and HIV.
