The country of India is a victim of human rights violations every day. India is known as a “subcontinent” because the Himalayan mountains nearly isolate the entire nation from the rest of Asia. India has one of the largest populations of any country. In fact, the current population is estimated to be around 1.27 billion people. This means that the population density of India is approximately 1001 people per square mile (Population of India). This extreme overcrowding can lead to serious problems among the people. Many people have seen photos of public transport passengers dangerously crowded together and crammed outside buses or trains in India. This is just one example of how people get around the overcrowding factor. There are six main ethnic groups that make up the large population of India, two main languages and the most common religion Hinduism. Karma is an important aspect in the Hindu religion. The whole “treat people well and you will be treated well” aspect is quite ironic in India. This is because so many human rights violations by citizens and, more commonly, government officials are stopped every day. The Indian government is a victim of corruption and its citizens often fall victim to it. Furthermore, unnecessary violence is occurring across the country. We should worry about India because the government is corrupt, people are not treated equally and the rate of public violence is very high. In India, the government is violating the human rights of citizens. The government has begun to increase surveillance of the Internet. They monitor cell phone and Internet usage to an extreme extent.
