Tsotsi, a film that won the Oscar for best foreign film in 2006. A film that shows hope and portrays a story where a bad and rebellious teenager turns into a good boy , responsible, peaceful and obedient citizen. The film is set in South Africa. What goes through your mind when you see the word South Africa? It's apartheid; racial segregation where contact between whites and coloreds was limited or Nelson Mandela; who took part in the process of clearing this subdivision in South Africa or perhaps the 2010 FIFA World Cup, or the unique mix of culture, wildlife and attractive and beautiful landscapes. The main character known as "Tsotsi"; a South African term for gangster or thug is a nineteen year old teenager who takes viewers on a journey into his past horrible childhood days and his incredible decision to change his life and not express his resentment towards the world. In Tsotsi, I believe there are two main themes that are shown to us in many different forms throughout the film; the first is HIV/AIDS as it is shown to us in many different forms throughout the film, the second theme is reform, the reversal of the situation; the transition from evil to good; and the term “decency.” The film is full of intense emotions where Tsotsi is an underage gang leader; without showing any expression, without sympathy and couldn't care less who he killed for a small amount of money. All of this was transformed by the vulnerability of a small, innocent, defenseless child. The film begins by distinguishing and giving each member of the gang a character profile. At first we are shown as uneducated people who played gambling and dice but were unable to count the points. Only a failed teacher named Boston is at...... middle of paper...... like pianos, violins and harmonicas. Proving that Tsotsi had undergone a change from wildness to coldness. At the beginning of the film we meet Tsotsi wearing dark clothes that cover his face with hoodies showing that he is ready to make trouble and mischief, however when he goes to return the child to his rightful owners we see him wearing elegant clothes and even white ones. which represents serenity and enlightenment. The film is a very touching, sensitive and emotional redemption story. The story of how a heartless young delinquent can turn into a soft-hearted guardian. This shows that despite the poor living conditions, terrible events and how heartless someone can seem. You can adapt to your surroundings and situations, you can also transform your life. Everyone has something good in them, you just need to choose whether to value it and use it or not appreciate it and discard it.
